One of the most popular topics last year and this year is ChatGPT, and with it, the (further) emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) that generates text. Many people tried it, asking questions. But ChatGPT is not the only artificial intelligence system. There are also image generators DALL-E and Stable Diffusion, video generators such as Deforum or Make-A-Video or other text generators such as LaMDA or Sparrow and many others.
Predictions about the benefits and harms of the introduction of artificial intelligence
Considering the sudden increase in the popularity of artificial intelligence, a debate has begun about its usefulness or harm. There are numerous predictions about its harmful effects. The first of them is the belief that artificial intelligence will take away the jobs of many people, because many occupations, such as communication with customers, offering information, writing texts or accounting, will be able to be performed by AI in the future, faster, more accurately and more efficiently than humans.
Another fear stems from the idea that she will create her content based on the study of a huge amount of human creations such as works of art, without respecting copyright. Questions like: if artificial intelligence makes music, who is the author of that music? Can it be the author of a work if it cannot take responsibility for it?
The third fear has already been dealt with in the movie Terminator, in which AI overtakes humans with its cognitive ability, develops consciousness and gets out of control. On the other hand, there are also beneficial effects of artificial intelligence. Some occupations, especially repetitive ones, will be able to be performed faster and more accurately than humans. It will be possible to get the correct answer to various questions in a second, without the need for independent research, which will save time and reduce the possibility of mistakes.
Risks in numerous life-threatening activities, such as demining, will also be reduced. Artificial intelligence systems do not need rest and can do their work 24/7 with the same level of productivity. Since they do not possess emotions, they will be able to make decisions completely impartially, which will again increase their accuracy.
We ask the question: what positive changes could AI bring to the coworking industry?
The first one has already been mentioned. Answering emails, reserving space, entering client arrivals in the calendar, creating invoices…all of this could be done by AI in the future. Of course, if we take into account that it develops so much that the error is minimal, artificial intelligence could perform these tasks faster and more efficiently than humans and completely independently.
The second is creative jobs. ChatGPT could soon independently create blog texts, social media posts or marketing campaigns and slogans. The human factor could stand here as a possible corrective, which would correct or refine some idea that artificial intelligence comes up with, but it can be speculated that it will become so advanced in the future that it will not be necessary at all (or in exceptional situations).
Also, artificial intelligence could quickly and precisely perform statistical tasks, such as the change in the number of users in a year, financial reports, the number of inquiries received, the number of coffees drunk and literally the smallest details that are now neglected because they require too much time, but which can again be interesting indicators in the creation and implementation of business plans and strategies. Because this data could be obtained in the future with one click.
Focus on building interpersonal relationships in the coworking community
This leaves coworking space employees with the opportunity to focus on other things. For example, they could focus on interpersonal relationships in a coworking community. This is one of the crucial dimensions of coworking – interpersonal contact, building and expanding a business-private network and facilitating cooperation, and this (at least until perfect robots are built) is still something people should and can do best. Also, for now it is people who have to maintain the coworking space (but surely AI will also be able to do that in the future, because there are already “robots” like Roomba).
Also, employees in coworking spaces could work fewer working hours and focus on looking for new partners in their entrepreneurial venture, finding new clients and attending numerous conferences for which they will now have more time. There’s also the aspect of upskilling employees, who, once freed from the often repetitive business responsibilities now done by AI, can use their free time to learn.
In conclusion, these are all just predictions, but it is inevitable that artificial intelligence will become an integral part of our lives in the future, just as it has become, for example, the Internet, and while it will certainly bring some negative changes, it will also offer positive opportunities for new forms of business and life.
